The counties of England

There are (currently) 46 counties in England – from Cornwall in the far south west to Cumbria and Durham (see the Counties home page for more on why "currently"!)

Some of these are clearly more rural than others – the wilds of the North York Moors or the more remote parts of Exmoor in Somerset, for example. But every county has its nods to nature – whether in the parks of London or the city farms of Birmingham.

So, whether you want peaceful lakes, a dramatic coastline or simply fields and forests, there's bound to be a county to give you what you need!
