Background

Dedham Vale and the Essex / Suffolk border

A beautiful stroll along the banks of a river made world famous by a local artist. Do lazy afternoons get any better than this?

Starting at Manningtree Station, this walk takes in the scenery around the River Stour and the village of Dedham.

Famously painted by John Constable, this is as English a landscape as you could hope to find – country churches, river banks, pubs and tearooms.

Difficulty

This is not a tough walk. There are a few climbs – particularly near the start of the walk, but generally, and particularly in the second half, it’s pretty flat. And, of you need a break mid-way, you can always relax on the sofas in the Sun Inn at Dedham.
