The first snowdrop of the year

It is such perfection.
So tiny and delicate that you can hardly imagine it having the strength to push through the soil.
Almost translucent, the white droplet above the dark green sword-leaves.
Surrounded by the leaves that remember last year’s autumn and the fresh green of moss and grass hinting at the new growth of this year’s spring.
I love snowdrops. So much more reliable than actual snow, such a sign of hope and renewal when the days can be dark and grey and heavy.
In another 3 or 4 weeks, our lawn will be covered in them – but for now, this one is alone. The first of the year, welcoming in 2026.
