This site is my love letter to rural Britain…

…its coasts, moorlands and mountains.
Its coffee shops and glass blowers, its farmers and festivals.
Rural Britain can be 30 miles from the nearest shop, or 10 minutes' walk from a fabulous museum. Let's celebrate it all.

Hello – I'm Andrew!

I was born in Torquay, and spent my young childhood in rural Somerset, in the village of Westonzoyland. Then, for most of my teens, I lived in the Teign Valley, in deepest Devon.

And now I'm in the heart of the High Weald, amid the leafy lanes of East Sussex.

I've holidayed in North Wales, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Norfolk Broads and the North York Moors. With my partner, Angela, I've driven the whole coast of Britain, from Land's End, up the west side to John O'Groats, and then down the East side back again.

In short – I'm a country boy through and through. I love Britain, and this site is my love letter to rural Britain in all its beauty, history, nature and eccentric charms.

So, on these pages, you'll see the stories of the people and places, the businesses and traditions, the food and the crafts, the bonfire night celebrations and the jam-making competitions at the Summer Fayres.

I share these stories in a daily email – and I'd love you to tell me some too. What makes your village special? What are the memories you treasure of where you grew up? Who in your area has a tale that really should be shared?

Do join me below – and then hit reply to any of my emails. I promise to read every email I get – and to share the best of your tales with the Rural Britain community.
